昭和36(1961）年10月31日を最後に大阪・玉造～玉船橋間の東西の路線と、阿部野橋～玉造間の南北の路線が廃止された。当時、上本町６丁目界隈に住んでいた吉村久雄さんが、消えゆく市電を記録している。大阪市交通局に尋ねると、最初の市電の廃止は昭和36年ではなく、昭和20年８月15日の終戦の日と分かった。終戦の混乱で、あまり記憶に残らなかったと思われる。
一方、吉村さんが撮影した映像からは、当時の活気ある大阪市内の様子が見えてくる。市民の足として活躍していた市電や、オート三輪、工事中の長堀通や、現在は埋め立てられてしまった、4つ橋があったことからその名前がついた四ツ橋など、懐かしい大阪の姿を映像に残してくれている。

On October 31, 1961, the east-west route between Tamatsukuri and Tamafune in Osaka and the north-south route between Abenobashi and Tamatsukuri were discontinued. Hisao Yoshimura, who lived in Uehonmachi 6-chome at the time, recorded the disappearing streetcars.
When we inquired with the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau, we learned that the first streetcar was abolished not in 1961, but on August 15, 1945, the day the Second World War ended. Due to the chaos of the end of the war, it seems that people did not remember it.
On the other hand, from the video shot by Mr. Yoshimura, we can see the lively atmosphere of Osaka at that time. Streetcars that were active as a means of transportation for citizens, auto tricycles, and Nagahori-dori Street under construction. You can also see Yotsubashi Bridge, which was later reclaimed and disappeared, but got its name from the fact that there were four bridges there.
